I am a bit puzzled,  now that I have heard about HD.

Will I need another set top box for digital HD?  Can I use my existing tv for HD with a super box or what?  When do we get HD via our normal tv aerial?

I have the feeling that this set top box issue is a fudge to get us into the digital arena then we will have to upgrade or tv's next to get HD services as they slowly remove non HD programming?

You will need a HDTV receiver. At the moment the only route to HDTV is via satellite delivery. Theres no timescale to HDTV via DTT yet. There have been some small scale DTT tests in the London area but theres nothing definite yet.

No idea what happening with the cable services - seeing as they arent available to most of the Border TV area (and never will be) Im discounting them completely..

So the system has you again by the short and curlies.

If I understand you - My brand New digital set top box - which is supposed to bring me into this new digital era - is a total waste, as what I am seeing on my, also brand new, HD tv, is basic digital services. ie I am not getting the full digital experience.... and as it sounds may never get via terrestrial services.

So I need't have upgraded my tv at this time and saved myself a couple of thousand pounds.  All I needed was a cheap telly ( not even widescreen) and a £30 box

Also this must mean the tuners put into new integrated digital tv's are only for non HD services.... and I will need to buy an HD set - top box at some stage. To upgrade my HD telly.

I should also point out that whilst a normal tv set will work with a HDTV sat box, you will not get  the best results unless your tv is HDTV ready (essentially it is new enough to have been designed to accept HDTV signals - tv's should have had a "HDTV compliant" sticker on it when you bought it.)

MY previous post was made after yours appeared - we were typing at the same time.

If Im right you have a HDTV compliant tv. If you have a "Freeview" DTT box then you are getting standard def signals - and will be for the forseeeable future.

If you want HDTV signals then you get Sky HDTV fitted - end of story. And lets be honest its not a cheap option - you pay 10 quid a month on top of the standard subscription at the moment so you are looking at over 50 quid a month if you have the sport and movies. Thereare few non premium channels at the moment so its not really worth having the basic pack with HDTV
