My mother lives in Port Erin in the Isle of Man and has just cancelled her Sky contract (cancellation is effective in a couple of weeks' time).  She gets better pictures on BBC when watching them through her Sky digibox.

I don't think that Port Erin yet has FreeView signals (but please tell me if I'm wrong).

Does anyone know whether she will still be able to watch BBC and ITV via her Sky box and satellite dish once her Sky contract has ended or will she have to put up with the standard terrestrial signal  until IOM (South) goes digital  - and, if so, does anyone know when that will be?

I'm not sure if her main TV aerial is tuned to Granada or Border region ITV.

She's in her 80's and worrying about what will happen.

Tell her not to worry. The sky box will still receive all the BBC, & ITV channels plus Channel 4 / +1, Channel 5, 5US / +1 , 5Life/ +1, and Sky 3.

Thanks - will she need to keep her sky viewing card in the box or will the box receive the signals from BBC etc without the card?

BBC ITV the shopping channels, the religious guff and the radio channels and the rest of the free to air stuff will work with the card out of the box.

Channel 4 / +1, Channel 5, 5US / +1 , 5Life/ +1, and Sky 3 require the card to be in.
