A number of journals and MP blogs are reporting a groundswell of concern about a 'digital lite' service for those people on relay transmitters.

These people are to receive it seems a cut down service and not the full fat channel list available from the main transmitting sites.

What are your thoughts and how do you think this upgrading could be paid for and resolved?

The body responsible for digital switchover is considering turning off the analogue signal for all the UK's terrestrial channels in one go instead of continuing with the existing two-stage process.

Digital UK said there had been mixed feelings in Whitehaven, the Cumbrian town where the five-year switchover project began in October, about the decision to switch off BBC2's analogue signal four weeks ahead of the other terrestrial channels.

The switchover body said the process had created confusion for some people and had forced viewers to "toggle" between analogue and digital services to access all channels during the transition period.

Other countries have turned their analogue signals off overnight therioughout the whole country - but the uk meanders along doing things over the half a decade. By the time the last analogues are switched off much of the equipment in ITV Borderland will be obsolete or life expired...

And is it really sensible to re-engineer every single tiddly relay transmitter that serves a few hundred houses? Why not just take the opportunity to shut them down and give the affected houses free PSB Freesat equipment.

A Borders MP has handed to the UK Government a petition raising concerns about the digital television service being offered to the region.
The area will be the first in Scotland to switch over from the analogue signal later this year.
Lib Dem MP Michael Moore claimed homes served by relay transmitters would miss out on channels.
Digital UK said the switchover would ensure everyone had access to more channels than at present.
The Selkirk main transmitter and its relays will move to digital on 6 November.
