Colour, widescreen, nicam, freesat, Freeview and the now the internet what do you buy?
It would seem from the great leaps in technology that whatever you buy you are out of date before you take it home.
Take the chaos caused by the
failing of Freeview boxes due to an upgrade. Many of the early adopters of this technology have been punished, through no fault of their own, into needing to buy newer technology.
I can hear the cries of 'steam before diesel', 'gas light before electricity' and all those arguments however, the modern evolution is much faster than before.
If you had adopted for gas lighting, it at least worked for 10 years before the electric lamp came along.
So my comment is, given a new 'green - don't through away' ethos and the speed of progress should manufacturers be guided to ensure that products have a minimum shelf life before they have to be thrown out.
Or is the best way not to buy anything except a basic model until standards have been agreed and manufacturers make available upgradeable equipment.
Anyone want a
