Overgrown trees could mean that some Carlisle residents have no TV reception when Cumbria goes digital next year, a city councillor has claimed.

Colin Glover, who represents Currock, says he was contacted by a resident of Currock Park Avenue who has had difficulty receiving the digital Freeview channels.

Engineers told her that the councilís failure to cut back trees in the road outside meant they were interfering with the signal.

Mr Glover told a council meeting on Tuesday night: ìOnce the analogue TV signal is switched off next year, the screens will go blank. Has any assessment been done on what the impact will be?î

North Cumbriaís analogue TV signal is due to be switched off on July 22. Viewers will need to switch to digital TV before then. The BBC2 digital signal will be turned off a month earlier, on June 24, as a final reminder to make the change.
