My other half has mentioned that there are planning proposals to raise the height of the Selkirk Hill (Lindean) transmitter by 5m. This is due to installation work of extra digital aerials. This weeks planning lists - which they are on - havent appeared on the sbc website yet, so does anyone have any more info on this??

No further information - but the weekly lists are usually 5-10 (calendar) days behind in being published on the internet site.

However.... from the 10th Feb list...... http://www.scotborders.gov.uk/pdf/12384.pdf

Ref number 06/00228/FUL is the one of note.

Hmm - it definitely says Digital TV on that planning form. Now seeing as Selkirk already radiates all 6 DTT multiplexes, what on earth is this extra equipment for?

Perhaps they're shuffling the antennas on the mast to stick the digital ones at the top ?

I've just had another thought - perhaps they are going to use the new equipment to make the "PSB multiplex" and replace the analogue BBC2 on switchover....

Maybe it's time to call the planning department ?

Well if you have a number, give them a ring.... Thought the SBC planner might be a bit closer and you'd be able to look at the plans Smiley

In a fit of boredom (whilst awaiting my indian food cooking) I took a scan through this and it seems to suggest that the need at Selkirk is for a second redundant antenna - so in the event of a failure we'll not be left without DTT pictures.

Reading page 13 of that document seems to imply that some works will also take place at Caldbeck for a similar purpose.
